RuneScape features a real-time combat system for both PVE and PVP encounters. 25 skills allow the player to perform various activities throughout the game in order to gain experience, in-game currency and materials for different uses. Afterwards they are left to explore freely the world of RuneScape. The players are instructed of the most basic skills and interactions into a tutorial scenario at the beginning of the game. By not having a linear storyline the game offers the players the possibility to set their own goals and objectives. Players can customize their characters to some extent, tweaking features of their avatars such as hairstyle, face, clothing and so on. RuneScape sets the players into the world of Gielinor in which they can battle different types of monsters, earning experience and gathering items that could help them in their future adventures. The game was developed and published by Jagex Games Studio, released in January 2001 by Andrew and Paul Gower. RuneScape is a browser MMORPG, with a fantasy thematic, implemented on the client-side in Java, incorporating 3D rendering.
